COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Establishing the causality of a disease is often a difficult task, especially when it becomes necessary to decide if a worker’s medical condition resulted from, or was aggravated by, factors in the workplace.  Difficulties in associating hazards and risks to illnesses have contributed significantly to the under reporting of occupational and other work-related diseases.  The need to continuously build the capabilities of health professionals in diagnosing work-related diseases is being addressed by this course.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course, the participants will be able to evaluate and establish the compensability of diseases based on the principles presented in the training.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  1. describe the current global and national occupational safety and health situation;
  2. explain the concepts of occupational and work-related diseases;
  3. discuss the factors to be considered in establishing the work-relatedness of diseases;
  4. describe the current practices and policies in compensating diseases and injuries;
  5. explain the process of determining the work-relatedness of diseases and evaluating claims to for compensation;
  6. prepare a re-entry plan to develop and improve the process of evaluating claims in their respective establishments.
